President
Corné graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2005 and subsequently completed post-graduate diplomas in orthodontics and aesthetic dentistry. She is the founder and co-owner of Smith and van Lierop advanced restorative dentistry in Newlands Cape Town. Her passion is to create beautiful smiles with minimal invasive restorative techniques.
In 2018 Corné co-founded The Bridge Program, with a vision to empower and educate young dentists. She has lectured on several topics in South Africa over the past six years and is currently a key opinion leader for 3M and Tokuyama Dental.
Being a passionate dentist, she's been actively involved in SAAAD and has served on the Executive Committee of the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD) since 2018.

Vice President
A Co-Director at Matrix Dental Specialists, Ridhwaan is a firm believer in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
Both implant and tooth-borne fixed oral rehabilitations form a central point of his case management.
Sharing and learning play a big part in his passion for dentistry, and this is illustrated in his roles within various organisations on different levels.
As Vice-President of SAAAD, under the leadership of Corné, his primary goal is taking dentistry in South Africa to higher levels and thereby increasing public patient awareness and appreciation of the dental profession.
Immediate Past President
Jean graduated in 1999 from the University of Stellenbosch, after which he spent some time in private practice in the Netherlands and United Kingdom.
Since his return to South Africa, he has established himself as a respected cosmetic dentist using modern dentistry to impact his patients' appearance and confidence positively.
An executive member of SAAAD since its inception in 2010, Jean is passionate about the organisation and its members.Jean has a keen interest in the new developments in composite restorations and direct bonding techniques.
Outgoing Treasurer
Andy graduated in 1981 from the University of Witwatersrand as the recipient of the Henry St John Randolph award for the Best All-Round Student. He relocated to Cape Town and established the Hout Bay Dental Studio in 1983.
A founding member of SAAAD, Andy has served as an executive member since its inception in 2010. He has published articles in Dentistry SA and presented many case presentations at his study groups. He has also made several guest appearances on radio shows and television, discussing dental related matters.
Andy has a particular interest in metal-free, minimally invasive dentistry and the holistic treatment of patients.
Treasurer
Janél qualified in 1991 from the University of Stellenbosch and then assumed a job in Johannesburg. She returned to Cape Town in 1992 and established Longbeach Dental.
Janél is interested in cosmetic and advanced restorative dentistry, dentures fixed on implants and full dental rehabilitation.
Janél attends numerous implant and cosmetic dental courses and is an active member of SAAAD and the International Team of Implantology study group.
Her interests include travelling, interior decorating, wine tasting and collection. She is also closely involved with TEARS, an animal welfare organisation in Fish Hoek.
Exco Member
Duan completed his dental degree at the University of Stellenbosch and has been in private practice in the Winelands since 2003.
He has built up his practice, Healthsmile, to offer a wide range of dental treatments and is interested in full oral rehabilitation, aesthetic and implant dentistry. He has acquired various local and international postgraduate qualifications and also lectures in the field of implantology.
Duan is an active member of the Boland Study Group and serves his community with an innovative approach to dental health care and wellness.
Exco Member
Shanné qualified with a BChD from the UWC as a member of the Golden Key Society. During her community service at Tygerberg Hospital, she enrolled in a two-year part-time postgraduate diploma in Endodontics which she completed Cum Laude in 2019.
She was fortunate enough to be mentored by Dr Janél Welgemoed when she started her career in private practice in 2019. Shanné recently founded Dental Haus in Val de Vie Estate.
She is passionately curious and believes the key to excellence is continuous education. As a result, Shanné has completed numerous certified training courses.
Exco Member
Mary qualified with a BDS at the University of Limpopo in 2008. She subsequently obtained a Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry and an MSc Odontology from the University of Pretoria.
She is currently an associate dentist at The Thinc Clinic in Johannesburg, where she practises her philosophy of creating natural, confident and beautiful smiles.
Mary possesses a keen insight into the applications of digital smile design in treatment planning and follows an integrative dental treatment approach that combines empathy and concern for the well-being of her patients.
