Dr Andy Effting graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in 1981 and was awarded the Henry St. John Randell commemorative medal for the ‘Best All-Round Student’.
He relocated to Cape Town in 1982 and established the Hout Bay Dental Studio. The original single-dentist practice has since grown impressively to the current facility, comprising four dentists, a periodontist, an endodontist and two oral hygienists.
Andy is particularly interested in aesthetics, metal-free, minimally invasive, bonded dentistry, and holistic patient care.
He is a founding member and Past President of the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD). In this role, he was instrumental in winning the rights to host and organise the hugely successful International Federation of Aesthetic Dentistry (IFED) world symposium in Cape Town from 5 to 7 November 2015.
As a fellow of the International Team of Implantology (ITI), he enjoys international speaker status and is the past ITI Cape Peninsula study club director.
Andy has published journal articles, presented several case presentations at his various study groups, lectured at dental conferences and been interviewed on radio and television shows discussing dentistry-related matters.
He is happily married to Alison, a complementary Biochemic Tissue Salts health practitioner and astrologer. They grow organic vegetables at home along the Disa River in Hout Bay, where they live with their dogs, cats and chickens.
