Dr Coelette Smit is a Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgeon who is medically and dentally qualified and holds several degrees from the University of Pretoria. She is passionate about her work and thrives in presenting and developing cutting-edge treatments. Her fields of interest include facial reconstruction, pathology and trauma, using the latest technology to improve facial aesthetics and function.
She focused her first master's degree on oro-facial cleft formation - the causes of cleft lip and palate deformities. Her second master's degree research focused on babies with syndromes.
Dr Smit was awarded the KLS Martin Leibinger national prize for her research in cleft lip and palate non-syndromic aetiology and presented in Dubrovnic, Croatia. In addition to pursuing her fields of interest, she bridges the gap between invasive and minor invasive treatments to improve facial aesthetics and function.
Her love for temporomandibular surgery led her to an in-depth understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of the conditions affecting joint function. Dr Smit will continue to work on presenting research within the Maxillo-Facial field of specialisation.
