After the successes of the first Battle of the Speakers in 2019 and the much-anticipated return in 2023, we are now gearing up for the next competition on 26 October 2024. This exciting event, hosted by the South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD), brings together the brightest young dental professionals under 40 to showcase their skills.
We invite all clinicians nationwide to participate in this third Battle of the Speakers and for colleagues and teams to join the audience as the best young clinicians compete to be selected as the best young dental speaker in South Africa.

Bring your whole team! This event is open to your team and other supporters who can enjoy the day and support their favourite speaker. Participate in this unique experience and make sure your vote counts. In addition to seeing the best ten presenters battle it out on stage, audience members can rate and vote for their favourite speaker using a live voting app. Your vote, taken into account along with the judges', will help decide the final winner. |

SAAAD Speaks for Smiles!
This year, SAAAD is pledging a donation of R10,000.00 to Operation Smile South Africa. Dr Martinette Engelbrecht, one of our esteemed case study presenters, will introduce us to their essential work. We are delighted to continue our charitable outreach tradition in 2024, with their representative joining us on the day.

Operation Smile is a global nonprofit organisation that aims to bridge the gap in access to essential surgeries and healthcare, starting with cleft surgery and comprehensive care.
The South African office opened in 2006 and has since been a driving force in delivering safe surgery and comprehensive care for hundreds of patients.
Operation Smile SA is supported by a network of 130 volunteers who donate their time, expertise, and skills to provide high-quality, free cleft care in South Africa and across sub-Saharan Africa. It embraces a holistic approach, extending support beyond surgery to encompass dental, speech, nutrition, and psychological programs for full patient rehabilitation and social inclusion.
Beyond providing direct care for patients with clefts, Operation Smile is firmly focused on strengthening our healthcare system so that we can serve more patients needing surgery. It provides training and education opportunities for medical professionals, including plastic and maxillofacial surgeons, anaesthetists, speech therapists, and dentists.
